DARTY DUNGEONS
A downloadable DnD Killer
If you love Roleplaying, but you've been forsaken by the dice gods (and hate other diceless RPGs), Darty Dungeons might be the game for you! Anytime you fail a check in Darty Dungeons, it’s your own fault!
Plain text rules for the default version (assumes knowledge of the traditional dart scoring system):
DARTY DUNGEONS:
THE SETTINGLESS ONE PAGE RPG WITH DARTS
In Case You Don’t Know What A Roleplaying Game Is: Darty Dungeons is improvisational storytelling driven game where players create characters who then go on adventures. They are guided by a Game Master (or GM), who creates the world, roleplays the other characters, and referees the player characters’ actions.
To run a game if Darty Dungeons, you’ll need:
⁃ Friends you trust with pointy objects (ideally 3-4, this is excluding the GM).
⁃ A pencil and sheet of paper.
⁃ A dart board that uses the traditional scoring system.
⁃ An imagination.
⁃ Common sense.
Dart Safety:
- Never put a dart board next to a door or in range of a room’s entrance.
- Make sure the dart board is secure so that it does not fall or rebound.
- Set a designated space for the current dart thrower to throw. Do not just throw from your seat at the table.
- Make sure the dart board is not in range of people, or where people will need to go. Do not get in range of the dart board. Make sure that in any given time, no one will be in front of the current Dart thrower.
- If you’re not already into playing darts, avoid getting a “proper” steel tipped set.
Character Creation: Assign your character two specialties and two banes. All character start with 3 Dart Points (or DP). They run out of DP, they die or otherwise leave the game. That’s it.
Simple Skill Checks: When a player wishes to do a task the GM decides should not be an automatic success, the GM has the player throw a dart at the dart board to determine success. If the player and GM agree that the task uses a character’s specialty, the player throws an extra dart, keeping the highest result. If it’s a bane, they throw an extra dart and keep the lowest result.
Score results:
⁃ The score is great than 24, critical success (as determined by the player and GM).
⁃ The score is greater than 11, regular success.
⁃ The score is equal 7-11, a complication determined by the GM arises.
⁃ The score below 7, a failure.
⁃ A complete miss of the board, critical failure. The player loses 1 DP.
Contested Skill Checks: When two characters come into conflict, like combat, this is resolved via a dart throw. Both parties take 3 turns throwing darts. The one who score highest wins the contest and reaps the rewards. A tie is an extra round. A failure may result in the loss of a DP at the GM’s discretion. A player gets an extra dart for a specialty and loses a dart for a bane.
